The Walers

“the time will come when the arid plains and the burning hillsides of Central Australia, will produce a horse that will be famous all over the world, and surpass even the Arab of the desert”  (E. M. Curr, a chief inspector of stock in the colony of Victoria of the last century).

The Waler is a versatile and adaptable breed, hardy, has stamina with natural courage, intelligent, alert and quick to learn.

Newhaven Station

Originally owned by the Coppock family since 1930, Newhaven Station was sold by Alex Coppock in 2000/2001 and cleared of stock. Unfortunately many of the horses met a sad fate. A number of these horses escaped this fate by a handful of dedicated few and subsequently found new homes throughout Australia.

Three of these mares found their way here to us at Wangara in the Hunter Valley NSW.

It has been a pleasure to watch these horses develop in mind and body.

There is just as much horse sense as ever, but the horses have most of it. Bedouin Quote
